Based on the most recent data on the CDC website, in 2025, the prevalence of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in the United States is estimated to be 1 in 31 children. This means that approximately 3.2% of 8-year-olds have been identified with ASD. Boys are significantly more likely to be diagnosed with ASD than girls, with a male-to-female ratio of approximately 3.4.

Join the Alabama Chapter of NAPNAP in Part 3 of our summer mini series as Dr. Justin Schwartz, developmental/behavioral pediatrician at Children's of Alabama, shares his expertise in the identification and recognition of autism and the approaches to health care for the autistic child throughout the lifespan. Dr. Schwartz is a member of the Civitan-Sparks Developmental Clinic leadership team and is co-director of the UCEDD program.
